PHACE-IT is designed for high school students to learn about public health issues through innovative concepts and real-life applications. The program offers participants the opportunity to be actively involved in solving school or community public health concerns. Participants will receive hands-on public health experience through a curriculum developed by public health professionals and subject matter experts. Our program is built on honesty, integrity, and a commitment to encourage and motivate youth to tackle public health issues that not only affect their community, but the world. We challenge participants to go beyond classroom discussions and explore viable solutions to things they have identified as problems.

Our Approach
PHACE-IT incorporates an active-learning style by combining classroom instruction with real-world experiences. Participants will have opportunities to build upon educational workshops through community involvement. Based on areas of interest, participants will design and execute their own public health project. In addition, field trips to colleges and universities, natural parks, health departments, etc. will help maximize public health exposure and provide opportunities for participants to interact with public health experts.

Goals of the program include:
Educating teens about public health careers
Strengthening connections between participants and their schools or communities
Developing participants’ leadership skills
Enhancing participants’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills
